OUR MISSION AT BACKSTAGE DANCE COMPLEX IS TO PROVIDE DANCERS WITH the highest quality of instruction IN a friendly and positive atmosphere. Our teachers are well trained in their expertise to ensure the most creative, artistic, and innovative choreography IS offered to all OF OUR STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF AGE, EXPERIENCE, OR ABILITY. Every student at BACKSTAGE can be guaranteed to get the best dance education offered and the proper attention needed to excel for years to come.
LOCATED IN THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE OF UNIONVILLE, IN AN HISTORICAL BRICK BUILDING, BACKSTAGE DANCE COMPLEX IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE TO RAILS TO TRAILS AND THE TOWN CENTER. IT IS ALSO SET A SAFE DISTANCE FROM BOTH RT. 177 AND NEW BRITAIN AVE, MAKING IT WORRY FREE FOR DROP OFF AND PICK UP WHILE STILL BEING ACCESSIBLE AND CONVENIENT FROM ALL DIRECTIONS.
We offer two professional dance studios, each with 1,400 square feet of space, with raised sub-floors covered in marley, and ample ballet barres and mirrors.
Our space also includes a lobby/waiting area with approximately 900 square feet of space, a large dressing room for bags, coats and student belongings, and safe, ample parking.

Our nationally award winning competition team (the Dance Corps) is selected by our talented and qualified staff to represent The Dance Connection in the best way possible. The minimum age requirement is 4 years old.
our team is comprised of the nugget company (ages 4-6), the petite company (ages 7-8) and our older team of dancers ages 9+. Each age level has age appropriate requirements. Dance Corps participates every year in Regional competitions and in one National competition.
We offer classes in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Acro, Stretch, Jumps/Leaps/Turns, and Combination classes (for ages 2 1/2 to 6 years old). we also offer multiple 6 week options for our youngest dancers through high school. we are also proud to be the only studio in the area to offer an adaptive movement class for children with special needs.

meet the DIRECTOR
jennifer mcdermott is thrilled to begin her journey as the director of backstage dance complex. she is no stranger to the studio; she's been an integral part of The Dance Connection since its very first year, witnessing its growth and contributing to its vibrant community from the beginning.
Beyond the dance floor, Jennifer brings a wealth of experience from her career as an elementary school teacher. With over 15 years in the classroom, she understands the importance of nurturing talent, fostering a love for learning, and creating a supportive environment for all. Her dedication to education was recently recognized with a nomination for the 2025 Canton Teacher of the Year, a testament to her passion and commitment.
Directing a studio has always been a lifelong dream for Jennifer, and she's incredibly excited to bring that dream to life here at backstage. She's brimming with new ideas and opportunities for every dancer, from innovative classes to exciting performance prospects. she is excited for the wonderful journey ahead, filled with creativity and beautiful growth.
