Backstage Pass to September
Happy Fall, Backstage Family!
Here's a Backstage Pass into our first month!
* Our littlest dancers joined us in their first 6 week session of Little Movers! They are having tons of fun with wands, ribbons, tambourines, hula hoops and learning activities. They're practicing gross motor skills like jumping to/from two feet, social skills such as taking turns, and listening skills! It is exciting to watch them begin to venture into class on their own! We are so proud of them!
* Preschool ballet/tap friends have been learning the positions of the feet (first and second!), foundational ballet and tap skills, and using the ballet barre. They're further practicing their feet positions using a hopscotch activity with hula hoops. I think it's safe to say getting to make all the noise they can with their tap shoes is certainly a highlight of class!
*Combo class dancers are working hard in their classes! They're moving right along practicing proper ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and/or acro technique such as glissades in ballet, irishes in tap, leaps in jazz, triplets in lyrical, top rocks in hip hop, and cartwheels in acro. We love seeing them learning new skills each and every week.
* Our individual discipline 1st-3rd grade classes are also having a lot of fun! They've all transitioned to individual style, longer classes nicely and we are using the extra time in each class to our advantage. From preparing to learn pique turns in ballet to proper technique behind our battements (kicks) in jazz, they are learning how hard work can pay off! Acro students are making previous skills "pretty" and learning new skills each week. This week we focused a lot on coming up from backbends. Hip Hop dancers have been practicing the rhythmic side to hip hop steps and will be learning a few "freezes" next week! This week in lyrical they learned illusions. Ask them to show you… but make sure nothing breakable is within leg distance!
* Our intermediate level classes are full of dancers who are putting in the work! We are focusing on straight legs in all technical skills, power behind jumps, and body alignment in turns.
* We obviously can't forget our advanced dancers who have been sweating it out in all their classes every week. Style and musicality are always a focus in class and this week I was able to see them learning a really amazing (and REALLY HARD!) combination in jazz class. Wow is all I can say!
*As stated in the newsletter, we have lots of new training materials for class that include balls, bands, rollers, sliders, ribbons, and even jump ropes. Please help your children to remember that these are tools, not toys, even though they look like fun! Also, children/siblings should not be in studios unsupervised. We try our best to keep our studios and materials in good working order for all our dancers and want to keep everyone safe.
